A change. An impact
Miguel Rivera Story
A few nights before Miguel’s first day of college. A night of drinking and having fun with his friends led him to make an unconscious decision. He attempted to drive himself home, but before he could reach his destination, he crashed into a side railing off of the 5 freeway that led to his car being catapulted down into a ditch that left him with the inability to walk. He was only 18 years old...
“My injury has not only strengthened me as a person, it has also given me the second chance to do something positive with my life such as reaching out to adolescents throughout the
community and raising awareness on various obstacles one may encounter in life.” – Miguel Rivera
We have a simple mantra as an organization and it is to “dream big.” We have put this into action by serving our local community and surrounding communities by inspiring youth to pursue their dreams through higher education. We educate, inspire, and provide academic support, financial assistance, and leadership training for our most vulnerable youth.
The Need - We support students with their education by providing scholarships, backpacks, classroom supplies, mentorship, and community resources to students, teachers, and families.

A change. An impact.

At the Dream Big Project, we believe in the transformative power of education and the impact it can have on individuals and communities. This is why providing scholarships to help students pursue their dreams through higher education has been an important component of our mission since our inception.
Thanks to the generosity of our compassionate community, we are proud to announce that we have awarded twelve scholarships to twelve exceptional high school graduates who embody the spirit of hard work and selflessness. These young individuals represent the future of our communities, and we are honored to support them in their journey to reach their full potential through higher education.
Each scholarship recipient was selected based on their academic achievements, leadership qualities, and their commitment to making a positive impact in their communities. These students have demonstrated resilience and determination in the face of adversity, and we are confident that they will continue to make a difference in the world.

How one backpack can make a difference
According to the U.S. Department of Education, 60% of U.S. parents struggle to pay for their child's school supplies. The price of school supplies remains a challenge for low-income families. Our backpack distribution program helps ensure that students in need attend school equipped for success in and outside of the classroom.
Most recent community partners that we have collaborated with for our Annual Back to School Event includes Los Alisos Middle School, Norwalk High School, New River Elementary, Los Angeles Barbers Barbershop, Sprouts, Norwalk High School SkillsUSA and Culinary Arts, Norwalk City Council, NLMUSD Board of Education, and many more individuals and organizations.

Thanks to the support of our amazing community of donors, partners, sponsors, and volunteers, we have provided 1,800+ backpacks, school supplies, and essential items and resources to students and families in Norwalk-La Mirada and surrounding communities.
Collaborating with Local Programs
Events are made possible through collaborations with local programs like the NLMUSD McKinney-Vento Program, Kiwanis 605, Los Angeles Barbers Barbershop,, So Cal Barber's, Bernabe Community Center, and many more individuals, schools, businesses, and organizations!

Team DBP staff and volunteers collaborate with community leaders and organizations to conduct youth programs that consist of backpack giveaways, scholarship awards, mentorship, teacher sponsorship, and service learning projects.
